Leonard Mort - Master Signwriter

Hi, I'm Len Mort, the "sign guy" behind Signmaker1.com. I started my journey into the fine art of signmaking in 1957 as a pinstriper. I learned my trade following two great friends, Russell Miller, a master signwriter and Edmund McLeod who was a master sign writer and a "walldog" bulletin painter and a true craftsman.
From Ed and Russ I learned the fine art of gold leaf gilding, lettering, blended shades, split shades and highlighting as well as layout and design. I've spent many years gold leafing many trucks and windows.
Over the years I've gained quite an interest in restoring antique artifacts such as antique gas pumps and motorcycles. I love Harleys and have owned several of my own, all Harley FLH "Full Dressers".
I started with the gas pump "hobby" sometime around 1990 when I decided I wanted a vintage pump to go with the street rod that I was in the process of building. Eventually I found one and restored it, and from there it turned into hundreds of gas pumps and clients around the country and even a few in Aruba, Italy and Switzerland.
The gas pump hobby turned into a full blown business that took on a life of its own. I started collecting gas station memorabilia such as old oil cans, signs, oil bottles, vintage road maps and old gas station photos. Before long, this hobby took over my entire house.
I also have an interest old commercial vehicles, I have a 1940 Chevy Sedan Delivery in the process of being "hot-rodded". I'm a real 50's teenager, and have a true love for nostalgia. I was also the founder of the Mass Gas Collectors Association and creator of the Mass Gas Bash. www.mass-gas-bash.com
